Python is my first language of choice.

Being an interpreted language it is fast to rapidly prototype ideas. When peformance becomes and issue it can be ported to a compiled language with all the data structures mapped out.

Python is also used by a number of digital content creation packages: Softimage XSI, Autodesk Maya, Apple Shake via pyshake, Foundry's Nuke.

Along with the fact that Python is supported by a number of operating systems the code can be written for one platform and supported in many environments.
